Health Information Technology Certified Manager

for Physician Practice | HITCM-PP

Do you have the knowledge and expertise necessary in today’s tech-heavy medical practice environment to protect your practice and your patients? Document your expertise via professional certification and demonstrate your value in this space. Cyber safety is patient safety!

In 2011 while attending Black Hat and DEF CON with (ISC)² CISSPs, we recognized the increasing need for technology savvy leadership within our country’s tiniest of medical practices. Cyberthreats were no longer isolated to large groups and hospitals. Physicians and practice managers running solo provider and small group medical practices could no longer depend on “the IT guy” to handle it for them. A collaborative team approach including tech-savvy medical practice leadership must be part of the solution.

Cybersecurity may have been the catalyst, but there are many aspects of medical office management that require basic knowledge and familiarity with technology. Every year the need for small practices to embrace technology grows. Today, it is a critical part of everything from marketing to patient communications and revenue processing. Practice managers must be fluent in technology and responsible for everything it touches. Effective communication with tech vendors is a game changer. Know what you really need and how to ensure your contract includes it.

The Health Information Technology Certified Manager for Physician Practice (HITCM-PP) Credential was created to validate and document a practice manager’s knowledge and familiarity with those aspects of technology necessary for today’s solo provider and small group physician practices (The 4 Domains).

QUALIFICATIONS

HITCM-PP candidates must meet or exceed the following:

  • 2 years experience working within the healthcare industry in support of patient care. Management experience is not required but it should be noted that the test content relates to operational administrative technology issues faced in a functioning medical practice where patients are treated.

  • 12 post-secondary education credits related to healthcare, management, or technology (college, university, or vocational school). Each year of experience above the 2 year minimum reduces the education requirement by 1 credit. Candidates with 14 years of experience and no education also meet this requirement (2 years experience satisfies the experience requirement + 12 years experience satisfies the education requirement).

Recertification is required:

The Online Quiz:

  • This is a free online sample quiz for the purpose of testing practice, addressing test anxiety, and to highlight some of the topics covered in the 4 domains of HIT as it applies to Practice Management. Have fun and learn at the same time!
